Zak Mitchell Tribute

Although I’m not going to talk about a specific story I had with Matthew, as just like everyone in this room has so many beautiful memories with him it’s hard to pick just one, I’m just going to say a few words about what Matt meant to me and the moments we shared together.

Despite the fact that over the 16 years I was friends with Matty for, I don’t think I can recall a time where Matty could control himself to not make a comment about my hair colour whenever we were together, but that just made the banter we shared together like no other, as I have to admit some things he used to come up with were hilarious! Just for a quick insight, I will read you matts John Bentley School 2017 leavers quote in our year book. “I’m fat, I eat my bogeys, trampoline days are insane. Is snoop his real name? Is that a whole in the sky? I like eating flies, nah I lie, but Zak is ginger, don’t worry, I will bully him till the day I die. I’m a party animal, ready to fly. I will miss you all my g’s, but for now, I say goodbye.” Despite hurling personal insults towards one another 90% of the time, this never put a dent to our friendship, it only made it stronger and therefore lead to us making some unforgettable memories that will stay with me forever.

As soon as I spent the first year with matty at school, being surrounded by his infectious smile, funny laugh and his loving heart, I knew straight away that that boy was going to be one of my best friends and a brother for life. After spending countless hours at the skate park playing on our scooters, countless hours watching him scream, hit and spit at your TV because you were losing at FIFA, countless hours of watching you drink way too much and fall over at every party we went to, countless hours of me laughing so much that my stomach hurt laughing at the stupid things you would be doing, formed a beautiful friendship between us which I can only thank you for, for blessing my life with such love, laughter and happiness.

Although we have all lost a perfect friend, heaven has gained a perfect angel and everyone hopes you’re having a sick time up there mate. We all love you so much, and I will be thinking about you forever and always ❤️
